Disclosure: Disney and Marvel sponsored my travel, accommodations and activities for this trip to LA. As always — my opinions and statements on the blog are my own!
As you all know well — I was honored with the privilege of heading to Los Angeles last week for the premiere of Iron Man 3 in Hollywood. One of the best parts of this trip was being able to interview Gwyneth Paltrow.
I’m not going to lie, I am an avid magazine reader, gossip rags, TMZ, etc.. Prior to this trip I had a bit of a tainted view of her — I mean why is she is on the “most hated celeb list” right? Well now I really can say WHY in the world is she on that list. I’ve had the opportunity to meet a few celebrities over the years, some in passing, some at concerts backstage and some for interviews. I can honestly say she is the sweetest and most NORMAL one I have had the opportunity to speak with. Totally down to Earth. Not to mention absolutely stunning in person!
Gwyneth has played Pepper Potts throughout all of the Iron Man movies. In Iron Man 3 she is now the President of Stark Industries and she really does that part justice. I’m just going to say it — she’s a bad-ass in this one 😉 (More to come on Iron Man 3 on Friday!!)
I think we are all curious about the on and off screen relationship and chemistry between Gwyneth Paltrow and Robert Downey Jr., so my Iron Man related question for her was what was it like to work with Robert on the movies:
“It’s so fun. I mean, he’s really, like, the most spontaneous like, mad genius, improvising, you’re really on your toes. It’s really interesting actually to see how all these different actors, what their process is and how they work. Like Jeff Bridges on the first movie, he had binders of research, and everything was all underlined and highlighted, and there were graphs and all this. And then Robert would come in and read the scene and rip it up, and be like, nope, we’re not doing it.”
If you don’t know, Gwyneth also got to put on the Iron Man suit in this film! There is a scene where Tony Stark puts the suit on Gwyneth to save her, so of course we had to ask about what that was like!
“I love putting on the suit. It was really weird, like I’ve never done anything like that in my whole career, and my son was on set, and so I’ll never forget it. I walk out onto the set, and I was fully dressed in the suit, and his face, because he’s like in the last probably year and a half watched the first Iron Man and Avengers and everything- I’ll never forget his face. He was in shock and awe. It was so cool.”
Major mommy points there right?! Someone mentioned that “Mommy cool factor”…
“And by the way, I now have a Lego in the set- there’s a Pepper, so I am, like, I am a goddess. So fun.”
We were also lucky enough to be the FIRST people to interview Gwyneth after she was named People’s Most Beautiful Person. The article had just gone live that morning. We asked what her reaction was when she heard about it.
“Honestly, Steven, my publicist since I was nineteen years old, sent me the email and I was, like, this is a typo, I reread it three times, and then I got this really weird old feeling that my school bully somehow was playing a trick on me. I swear, I had to talk about it with my shrink. I went through this whole weird thing. And I was, I mean, beyond, surprised, flattered, and I still kinda can’t believe it. It’s, it’s really cool.”
We also spoke to her extensively about her new cookbook and more is coming about that next week! 🙂 I left the interview with a totally different view of her as a person, mom and actress. She really took the time to answer every question we threw her way.
After the interview we rushed to get ready to see Iron Man 3! She did a phenomenal job as Pepper in this one. Perfect character. See my Red Carpet Experience here! Iron Man 3 releases in theaters nationwide on Friday, May 3 — get your tickets!! Definitely a MUST SEE!
(Thanks to Chrissy over at Dear Chrissy for taking the pictures during this interview!)
Almost didn’t find you in the pic – your hair is SO blonde now!! Looks good 🙂 Glad to see you got to go on another Disney Trip 🙂
She definitely deserves People’s title. And sounds like such a fun woman to meet. What an amazing opportunity!
So much fun!
I love her as an actress. Awesome to hear she’s so sweet and down to earth in real liFe
I love love love Gwyneth Paltrow! So lucky that you got to meet her.
I still can’t believe that I met her, I keep looking at these posts and I am like, oh yeah, I was there too!
