Tip Top Poultry, Inc. has recalled an undetermined amount of ready-to-eat poultry products, the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service announced.
The recall is due to possible contamination of listeria monocytogenes.
Consumption of food contaminated with L. monocytogenes can cause listeriosis, a serious infection that primarily affects older adults, persons with weakened immune systems and pregnant women and their newborns. Less commonly, persons outside these risk groups are affected,” USDA officials said.
According to the USDA, listeriosis can cause headaches, stiff neck, loss of balance, fevers and muscle aches.
The products recalled were produced between Jan. 21, 2019, and Sept. 24, 2019. They were shipped tostores nationwide in the United States and Canada.
The original recall was Sept. 28, but was expanded to include additional products Oct. 8.
Some of the retailers listed are Food Lion, Giant Supermarket, ALDI, Kroger and WEIS Market.
Included in the recall are chicken salads, chicken wraps, chicken pot pie and other products.
According to the USDA, there have been no confirmed reports of reactions due to consumption of these products.
Consumers who have purchased these products should throw away the food or return it to where they bought it.
