I used my kid’s-eat-free Chili’s coupon this evening, when I was picking up the order I noticed — for the first time — this sign on the counter.
I’ll be honest, I have never thought to tip when I do a to-go order. Don’t get me wrong, I am usually a great “tipper”, paying anywhere from 18-30% tips when I go out to eat.
I always considered that I was tipping based on the service that I received, and I guess when I order to-go, I don’t consider that the same? Of course the sign got me thinking and I did add a small tip on the bill (10%).
This definitely made me curious, what is the proper etiquette for this? Do you tip on to-go orders? I ordered online — there was no order-taking, nothing other than putting my food in the bag. I don’t tip at a drive-thru, but are those employees paid differently? I honestly don’t know — so I figured I would ask the crowd! 🙂

for a togo order where i have to use my gas to go get it and no one has to serve me they just bring me the food to the car or they give me the food in the store and i leave, i’d say a $1 tip would be okay, If they have to bring me the food to my house i’d say depending on the attitude and speed of delivery i’d say anywhere between $3-$5. I never really tip over $5 of course my orders aren’t normally above $20 ethier so $5 would be a 35% tip. If the waiter is real nice and i have alot of money i might tip more. I once tipped a hair cutter a $10 because she stayed after hours to get my hair cut. It was literally 20 minutes after her shift and the store was closing. If you go out of your way for me i’ll go out of my way for you if you know what i mean.
