The Three Faces of Samantha
Only when she hears my feet land on the floor next to my bed does Samantha begin her loud crying to let me know she is hungry. I don’t think I have ever had such a considerate cat. Others in my life would do anything to wake me up, including one years ago that had to be shut up in faraway room or she would persist at any window or door available when she was ready to arouse me from sleep. 
Sometimes, Sammy’s needy sounding vocals seem more related to me getting up to greet her, and not to her desire to eat.
Then, it is time for adventure. Sammy has been an indoor cat her whole long life of 13 years. Just recently, she has been allowed out in the backyard where she loves to watch the birds and climb the trees. 
Once in a while, I will catch her out in front, but she knows it is a scary world out there, and she is eager to come back in. I caught her peeking around the neighbor’s garage recently as I headed out for a walk. When she saw me, she looked startled as she turned around and scampered back to my backyard.
Neediness and adventure are always followed by my favorite face: the peaceful one. Whether it is in a box by my desk, on her cat tree or under a bed, Samantha represents so much peace. She knows how to take a nap or enjoy the present moment. The outside world does not affect her at all. She sets such a wonderful example for me to follow, and I am grateful for that.

That’s such a cute story, what a great cat! We just got a kitten and she’s a handful, but the free food will help!!
My indoor cats are always trying to “sneak” out! They get pretty crafty about it too, I have even caught one of them trying to sneak out the window of a 2nd story bedroom! They sure are determined kitties! Since they are a little more adventurous, I can’t let them out without a leash, but they do hook up to a harness and go for kitty walks to burn some of their energy off!!
