Some of you may have seen recently from Twitter that I am planning on attending BlogHer in New York City next week — as I am sure you can imagine, I am quite excited about heading to The Big Apple. One of my favorite places 🙂
I’ve been blogging for almost two years now and this will actually be my first blogging conference.
When I attended the Disney Brave Premiere and Cars Land event a month ago I had my first taste of working face to face with other bloggers and there were a few things that stuck out for me.
First and foremost there were so many FRIENDLY and gorgeous women! Â I loved every moment of it and made some excellent friends. Â That was just a total of 25 bloggers though — BlogHer… there will be THOUSANDS (yes, you read that right!)
One thing that stuck out though was that there was almost an upturned nose at a “Deal Blogger”. I was a bit surprised as I work with a lot of other deal bloggers and didn’t know that was even a consideration. I CAN write about more than deals, I’m certainly not The Bloggess (who is absolutely brilliant by the way!) but I’m more than capable of writing content, being funny and original.
Is that what I am passionate about? Nope.
I’m passionate about deals. I LOVE the thrill of scoring something at an unheard of price. Â I’m all about saving money on the basics so that I have extra cash to splurge when I can.
That is what I am GOOD at. Â Let me tell you — I am not an extreme couponer, Â I use coupons but not to the extreme that some bloggers do. Â I will not be the one to teach you how to build your own mini-store in your garage. Â That’s just not who I am. Â I am about getting you the nice things in life on the cheap. Â I will find you freebies, I will teach you how to get money back on your online purchases, Â how to earn extra cash through surveys, through Swagbucks and more.
It’s a different niche. Â
Is it over-saturated? Absolutely.
I had NO idea how many “deal blogs” were out there when I started and many more popped up after I started too. Â Fortunately, it has been a popular subject and is loved by many. Â I think most people like saving a buck, right?
I can only hope that you come back because you know that I strive to get you the most bang for your buck. Â I love my readers, there are many that have been around since the beginning and I try and “give-back” whenever I can through giveaways and more.
All that said, Â going into such a HUGE blogging conference with thousands of other bloggers is kinda scary! Â I really am looking forward to it — this is a fantastic opportunity to connect with some BIG brands and I hope to create some relationships that will benefit you guys too!

It doesn’t matter how many people are in your niche, what matters is your style & how you treat your readers, here, on twitter & your Facebook page. Judging by what I see here & your conduct on Facebook, your readers are certainly well served, you offer quality deals & your tone is warm & gracious!
Hope to see you at blogher!

Have fun! When I started in 2008, there were very few deal sites and now they are all over the Internet with new ones popping up daily. I enjoy posting about deals, so I keep doing it and love it! I’ve thought about starting a blog in a new niche, but haven’t found something I’m passionate about. I’m excited to hear about your experience at blogher.

Awesome post! I feel fortunate that I was one of the 24 who got to meet you in LA last month. I totally get where you’re coming from and the feeling of others being a bit disdainful of “deal bloggers”…but you’re right – it’s what we’re good at, what we love to do and why our readers visit us every day. See you in a few days! (wow….is it really only a few days?)

I’ve never been to a “big” blog conference before, either–BlogHer is my first, but I’ve been on a few brand trips and a few smaller gatherings. Honestly, I’ve never had anyone ever turn their nose up at the idea of a “deal blog” (or I’ve been completely oblivious to it!).
I’m not super-outgoing by nature, but I’ve made some excellent connections and also met so many amazing people when I’ve had the chance to interact with other bloggers. IMO, it doesn’t matter what niche someone is in–anyone can connect if they really want to. If they don’t, well, then there are 3999 other people there to talk to 🙂
