Probably one of the most dreaded things to look toward in our future is losing our independence. My Grandma, who died 3 years ago this past Feb, was sharp as a tack until she passed away at age 89. She had to give up driving because her sight failed in her early 80s, and she told me a several times that she missed driving the most.
She actually lived alone from the time my Grandpa passed in 2001, until 2 weeks before her death. It still makes me wonder if that move to a care home was the last straw. I think she thrived on her ability to do things on her own.
While she was living alone, we all finally convinced her to at least have a home safety telephone system. Because she resisted even that, family members contributed to the monthly cost so she had no room to argue. We all felt much better knowing that help could be there with a push of a button.
She still had a landline phone, and we got her to agree that the experts knew what they were talking about; senior safety and senior independence can coexist. Since she loved technology and figuring out how things worked, the new gadget had some appeal.
My kids are fortunate to have another great-grandma in their lives. She sees the value of senior safety as well. I jumped at the opportunity to try the CARELINE Home Safety Telephone system, knowing that she would be willing to give it a try.
The great thing about the CARELINE system from VTECH is that there is no monthly cost. For just a onetime low investment, you get a corded phone, a remote phone and portable safety pendant to wear around the neck. The pendant can even make and receive calls.
Grammy has had it for a couple weeks now and so far has nothing but great things to say about it. She loves having that independence but at the same time a reassurance that she could reach someone if something happened while she is out gardening in the backyard or working around the house.
The base unit has large text display and audio boost to enhance hearing. Setting it up was VERY easy, and it is now programmed with the phone numbers that reach those close to her. Now, we all have the comfort of knowing Grammy can contact us if needed.
If you want to keep someone safer without taking away their independence, CARELINE is a great place to start!

This is a great phone system that has been needed for a long time now. I think one of the most selling features about this system vs others is that there are no monthly fees involved. 🙂

I agree with you there!! The no monthly fee aspect really is a HUGE selling point.

My father in law loves his system. The safety pendant is actually very useful for anybody who likes to work or relax out in their yard, the reception, range & voice command are excellent.

Exactly — my husband’s Grandma loves gardening out back but previously only had a corded phone. Now she has the pendant and the cordless so is much more comfortable going out back + gardening.
