I’m not a big “breakfast person” but I truly love fresh french toast. Made right it is just so good!! And filling too, you get your eggs and toast all in one 😉
This is my Mom’s recipe and I use it all the time.
What you need:
1 loaf of French bread (preferably day old — get it for less that way too!)
5 Eggs
1.5 tsp Vanilla
2.5 Tbsp Brown Sugar
1 tsp cinnamon
1/3 cup milk
Directions:
The night before, slice up the french bread and lay it out — let it dry out a bit and lightly cover over night. You want it dried out, which is why I recommend buying day old. I like it about 3/4″ thick.
Beat eggs in a flat pan/dish. Add in the brown sugar, milk, vanilla and cinnamon and beat well.
Dip the bread, coating both sides.
Place on a buttered Medium heat skillet and brown each side. (Varies on heat and skillet but the first round takes about 4-5 minutes each side and then speeds up for me.)
Add butter and real maple syrup and serve!! (Yes, I did add in “real” maple syrup… I personally cannot stand the flavored syrup — this recipe definitely tastes BEST with the real deal!)
Enjoy!
