Did you know that The Hunchback of Notre Dame has been released in BluRay? I was given the privilege to review this one and, again, Disney doesn’t fail on this one!
I hadn’t previously seen The Hunchback of Notre Dame (and either had my kids) and was a bit surprised by the intensity of this one! It was probably one of the “deepest” I have seen from Disney in terms of real life rejection and opposition for someone who is an outcast. My kids actually loved it though, they watched it more than once within the first couple of days of getting the movie.
One thing that really stood out for me in the movie was the MUSIC — great soundtrack on this one. Very emotional and striking music that really goes right along with the story itself!
Have you seen this one? Brief synopsis:
Based on the novel by Victor Hugo, the story follows Quasimodo (the Hunchback), who lives in the towers of Notre Dame and has the job of ringing the church’s bells. Frollo is his “keeper” per se, a local leader who makes Quasimodo fear the outside world. Nonetheless, he of course has a strong desire to get out and be part of that world. One day he sneaks out and joins in the Feast of Fools where he meets Esmerelda (played by Demi Moore) a beautiful gypsy woman. This increase his want for escape ten-fold. The story then unfolds with Frollo and his lieutenant trying to catch BOTH Quasimodo and Esmerelda and the battles that ensue are both dramatic and dark.
I was actually mildly surprised that this one had a G rating over PG. Like I said, my kids did very much enjoy it but it was a bit darker than many other Disney movies.
That said, I did not enjoy part 2 as much as part 1. Like many second movies, it just didn’t have the DRAW that the first did for me. I had a hard time sitting through it and actually so did my kids. They didn’t want to watch the second one again.
I would by the Combo pack through purely because the BluRay and quality of the first was stunning! 🙂
I was provided a review copy of this BluRay/DVD Combo pack — as always my views are 100% my own though!
