I think balancing (or juggling!) work and family is something that most families can always use a bit of help with. I definitely know that I can! Being self-employed, working from home, being at home with your kids can sound like the “dream” for many that do go to the office to work. Unfortunately there is a down fall though.
The self-employed tend to work well beyond the normal working hours. Fitting in time with the kids, scheduling out all the activities that they want to be involved with, shoot — even folding the laundry becomes an overwhelming task. Work, work, work becomes the schedule. And that isn’t conducive to great family relations and happy kids.
So when I was given the opportunity to speak with Beth Blecherman of TechMamas.com about using Technology to help balance things in the family I jumped at it!
She has also recently published a book My Parent Plan which also provides parents with advice on how to apply business principles to parenting.
Watch my video interview with Beth here! She has great advice on how to use a calendar, Outlook and more!

It has been weighing on my mind a lot this month how to make a better balance between work and kids. I work at home. And it never mattered too much because they were all in school. But now it is summer and they are home. And I still work. I don’t like it. I need a better balance so I can spend more time with my kids while they are here.

Working at home has been a struggle since school let out. I even jokingly asked my co-workers for posts on how to WAH with a 3-year old! One thing that is key for me is Outlook. Everything is scheduled, organized and at least I start out with a good plan. I wouldn’t know how to function without it.

It is very challenging because the work is never done! I am working really hard to get on a schedule and have hours I work and then time I can give my kids 100%

Yes, summer is so much harder with the kids home. I’ve been making use of my google calendar and it’s always filled in.
