Humility can be a good thing I think. Sometimes you just have to laugh at yourself and yesterday was one of those days!!
Daniel had been gone for a full week on a “boys trip” last week, I was home with the kids by myself and by the time he got home, I am sure you can imagine — I was ready for a break!!
We decided on pizza for an easier dinner last night and of course I volunteered to go get it for even the few minutes of “quiet” time in the car. I had to stop by the ATM on the way to pick up the pizza. It was a quiet Sunday afternoon and not much happening at the bank. Big empty parking lot.
I pulled up right next to the ATM. It was about 95 degrees outside and the inside of the car was still cooling off. I decided to keep the car running. Jumped out of the car and went to the ATM. I messed up my pin on the first time through, adding about a minute as the machine was acting up.
Finally. I get my cash and walk back to the car. Pull the door handle up. The door is locked. The stupid car LOCKED ME OUT!!!!! That extra minute added just enough time for the car to decide the auto-locks should go off.
All I had in my hand was the cash I had just pulled out and my bank card. Not my cell phone, no keys, nothing. In an empty bank parking lot. With a running car. I am still laughing now as a type this.
Luckily, the bank was on the outskirts of a shopping center so there was some traffic coming through the other parts. So I walked about 30 feet to be able to flag someone down to borrow a cell phone.
First car, window is down… I ask if they can help me, he slightly slows and then decides I look too dangerous to help I guess, because he kept on going.
Next car luckily had a nice older gentleman who was willing to help. And good thing he was patient too because Daniel doesn’t like to answer his cell phone if he doesn’t recognize the phone number…. So a good 10 tries later I finally got through to be rescued.
Once I hung up with Daniel, I got to work on improving my tan in the parking lot for another 10-15 minutes (I actually have no idea how long it was as I had no watch either… but it felt like 1/2 an hour!!). Of course I was lectured about how I should never leave the car running when I get out to go to the ATM. Yes, yes I know. Thank goodness I was in a good mood because I could only find humor in the whole thing.
