Sorry I haven’t updated the last couple days! Between Halloween with the older kiddos, everything that I am trying to get done on the blog and visits to the NICU with Oliver, I have been busy as I am sure you can imagine.
As always, thank you for the thoughts and prayers… they ARE working. Oliver is doing great right now. “Boring” but as I like to say… slow and steady.
He is now on full feeds and they are adding calories to the breast milk to help him gain weight. He is now at 2.2 lbs!
Here he is on Oct 31…
On Oct 30 we started a research trial that is being done on babies under 30 weeks, specifically to help with his lungs and to help get him breathing on his own quicker so he doesn’t have to be on oxygen as long. It is a bit of a more natural approach to steroids (which is common if they have been too reliant on oxygen after a month or so), we obviously don’t know if we have the trial or the placebo, but it does seem to be improving things with him breathing wise. On Oct 31 they were going to extubate him and put him on the Hudson prongs (nasal, cpap) but he wasn’t quite ready so we waited a little bit.
Here he is yesterday, Nov 1. I changed his diaper and then he gave me another full one right after… already causing trouble 😉 But he was nice and alert after that so I got a great picture!
I have been able to hold him more too, I started reading to him during Kangaroo care and I think he enjoys it, I know I do! 🙂
Then… good news, today, November 2, they were able to successfully extubate him!! He is now on the Hudson prongs and has done very well all day today with them! He has three more days to complete the antibiotics that he was on for infection and then they can take the picc line out too (which I can’t wait for as it just looks uncomfortable).
Here he is today with the new breathing apparatus 🙂
Lots of sleeping and growing to do! He is now technically 29 weeks 4 days. So we still have quite a ways to go. Continued prayers and positive thoughts are appreciated!
Oh and good news on my end, I did have a follow up appointment and my blood pressure was down! So the BP meds are working, I was quite excited when the nurse took my BP and it was 122/78, the lowest it had been in weeks!
I will keep you posted and post more pictures of little Oliver again soon!
