A year ago at this time, I was spending my days in the NICU with my son Oliver, if you have been following the blog for long, you will remember. Thankfully this year, we are all home and healthy. That said, having a baby that was born 3 months early doesn’t come without it share of issues — unfortunately.
After almost 6 months in the NICU, he had had just about every type of medical tape, nasal cannula holders, probes, etc. on his skin. After the constant changes, his poor skin started showing signs of eczema. And he likes to itch any spot that has the slightest irritation, of course making it almost impossible to clear up.
Even after coming home, he has a g-tube, so we were still taping gauze and the tube in place for a long time as I was worried that he would yank on it. Finally I got over that concern and he is leaving the tube alone BUT the spots where I taped previously still get irritated and angry looking. I’ve become a ninja at quickly changing his clothes so he can’t get his fingers on his skin to scratch.
No fun! So I was quite happy to try out something new to help clear it up. We’ve used a few different things and usually we get a temporary relief and it comes right back. Eucerin has some great products for both Adults and kids, both a Flare-up treatment and a body creme. For kids and adults respectively.
We obviously used the baby creme on Ollie.
After 5 days:
You can see he got his fingers in there and was scratching it 🙁 BUT, the redness and angry look had dissipated noticeably.
Then again this morning, 9 days after we first started using it.
Quite an improvement! I am happy with it.
