This is a sponsored post written by me on behalf of Universal for IZEA. All opinions are 100% mine.
Can you believe it has already been 30 years since the release of Back to the Future?! AND, as everyone has heard over the past month, the day that Marty McFly traveled to was actual this week, Oct 21, 2015. Crazy to think that it’s already happened!
That seemed SO far away back in the 80 and here we are, it has come and gone! With the anniversary Universal has rereleased the movie for showings in select theaters AND an anniversary edition has been released too.
Just in time for those Back to the Future parties! I got the kids together to binge watch Back to the Future with me. It was kinda cool, showing them the 80s, when I grew up and how we thought 2015 would be! Now if only I had that flying car!
Tristan is convinced that he needs a hoverboard now though! And a Delorian 😉 Of course, that brought up the subject of what would we do if we were able to time travel. Some of the kids top time travel fantasties:
Traveling back to see the dinosaurs
Traveling to the future so they aren’t so young.
Silly things like spending more time at Disneyland, the beach.
I don’t know, I think I would want to go back and time and change a few things but we also discussed the potential ramifications of that! It was quite a thought-provoking conversation with them. What would your kids want to do if they could time travel? Ask! It’s interesting.
We thought re-enacting some of the 50s prom would be a fun idea for a party too! There are so many fun things that you can re-create from the Back to the Future movies, but the kids seemed to think the 50s would be the best.
For dinner we made a meatloaf and taters (kinda like the meatloaf and mash that the Baines family has back in the 50s in the movie! This is a classic, old fashioned meal (that I knew everyone would like too!
You can check out our recipe here.
Then of course you have to have the Pepsi! Marty asked for a Pepsi Free, but that wasn’t going to happen back in the 50s! And make some homemade shakes and malts for dessert! Paula Deen has a good one that the kids love for the Malts. The malted milk gives it that “old-fashioned” taste and is seriously tasty!
Then for the “party”, we played some good ol rock and roll on Guitar Hero Live!! This is something that is fun for both kids and adults and brings that fun of Marty rocking it out (or trying to… hah!) back in the 50s.
You can even dress up in some fun 50’s style prom dresses, I am in LOVE with this Lindy Bop shop, they have some seriously cute dresses, perfect for your 50’s Back to the Future parties!
What are your ideas for a fun Back to the Future party?!
