Transformco, the company that currently owns Sears and Kmart, has announced plans to close 96 additional stores less than a year after acquiring Sears Holdings Corporation in February of 2019. The company plans to close 51 Sears stores and 45 Kmart locations by February of 2020. Liquidation sales in these stores will start on December 2, which is the Monday after Black Friday.
Together, Sears and Kmart have closed more than 3,500 stores and cut about 250,000 jobs in the past 15 years. After this latest round of closings concludes in February, the company will be left with just 182 stores.
This round of closings will not affect the company’s recently acquired Sears Hometown stores, which specialize in home appliances, equipment, and tools. To find out if your store is among the planned closures, you can check the complete list of closing stores in Transformco’s press release.
