In this current age of electronics, the Tablet is definitely high on the wish lists this year. I have received many emails from readers asking for deals on tablets and asking which ones are the best.
My view?
It really depends on what you want to use the tablet for. If you are looking for something with high entertainment value, good apps, access to basic internet, movies, etc.. I recommend checking out the new Kindle Fire — I have one on order right now and based on all of the reviews I have seen it is very much the “consumption” tablet. All about entertainment. It is also very reasonably priced at only $199.
My mom actually has the Toshiba Thrive and likes this one, it is a bit heftier than most of the other ones, it also has full size USB ports, etc.. It’s priced at $365. It has a full Android Market and is a decent tablet.
If you are looking for something with a little more oompf, you can go for the ASUS Eee Pad, which actually has excellent reviews too. I was hesitant on this one as I am not familiar with ASUS, but after reading countless reviews on tablets, this is one of the better ones. It is priced at $389.
The next one up is the Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1, this is pretty much the Android equivalent of the iPad and is priced about the same. Right now on Amazon you can get it for $486.95. The nice thing with this is that it DOES have Flash and USB capabilities.
Then of course you have the iPad. I love mine, I can use it for blogging if I need to, plus it has all the “fun” things that the kids like to play with and more. Cons: No Flash and no USB ports.
When it comes to tablets, I think you definitely get what you pay for. There have been a lot of much less expensive Android tablets recently – and they are actually perfect if you just want apps for the kids or yourself. I think the Kindle Fire is probably the high end of that spectrum.
What do you think? I would love to hear which ones you think are the best.
