In this day and age there are tablets everywhere, whether it be something that you use or something for the kids many houses have them.
My kids pretty much took over my iPad when I got one back a year and a half ago. I was on the computer most of the time so didn’t care most of the time but there were definitely times that I wanted the iPad back.
There is no way I was going to spend that much on a tablet for the kids to have their own though! I have been a bit leery as to whether or not they would be happy with one of the less expensive tablets, made for kids. So when I was given the opportunity to review one I jumped at the opportunity!
I was sent the VTech Innotab 2S to review. The kids were very excited about it. Both my 4 year old son and my 6 year old daughter were very happy to have a new toy and even more so that it was a tablet.
Start up
Getting the system set up and ready to go was surprisingly simple. You just turn it on and the tablet itself pretty much walks you through setting the thing up. There are several games that are preloaded onto the tablet with no disc required.
Included on the tablet
There are a lot of in-tablet apps included with the system itself. My daughter loves anything having to do with art and the fact that she could color and design pictures kept her busy for quite a while. I would say this was her favorite part of it so far.
My son meanwhile liked just about everything, being that he is 4 his attention span is a bit shorter and he liked quick games and anything he could play for a bit and be done with.
You can read more details about the system itself here on the Vtech site.
Ease of Use
I liked the fact that there was a very simple start up. I also like that you can easily create more than one profile so both of my kids can share the tablet but have their own games and everything set up to their own preference. Because they are both already pretty familiar with tablets they were both able to navigate and figure it out probably better than me 😉
The wireless was easy to set up too.
Overall, I think it is great for the age range that it is intended. It is a bit slow in terms of moving between apps, starting up, etc.. If I was using it, I would have an issue with it but the kids didn’t even seem to notice. Did it “replace” the iPad? No, unfortunately not. I am working on getting more kid games that I think will hold their attention longer and then possibly it will.
If your kids aren’t already used to an iPad or Android Tablet I think this is a fabulous treat for them!
Amazon actually has the Blue version for $87.78 right now too!
It would make a great holiday gift too!
I participated in a campaign on behalf of Mom Central Consulting for VTech and received a VTech InnoTab 2S to facilitate my review
