Sometimes when I blog I will half watch a show/half blog in the evenings. Last night after The Voice, I didn’t change the channel and this new game show that Howie Mandel is hosting came on called “Take it All”. I was intrigued and left it on.
The basic gist of this game show is it is supposed to be a “bigger” version of the classic White Elephant gift game played throughout the holidays everywhere. There are several rounds and each round the person that chooses and keeps the prize with the lowest value is eliminated and goes home with nothing. If you make it all the way to the finals you have accumulated a hefty stash of prizes.
The final round gives the finalists two options: Keep Mine or Take it All. If both say Keep Mine, you walk away with all of the prizes that you have won through the competition PLUS an undisclosed amount of cash in an envelope that you get to pick.
If both say Take it All, NEITHER will get any of the prizes. They will both walk away empty handed. If one says Take it All, they walk away with all of their prizes AND all the prizes of their opponent.
So last night the finalists were a lady in I’m guessing her thirties who is a teacher and an elderly gentleman who was ALSO a teacher, is now retired, a Grandpa etc..
The first few round were fine, in terms of a game, nothing outrageous. The final round however, I am not even sure WHY or how this show is being aired on Prime Time. Basically the moral of the story is that you are better off if you screw someone else over?
Last night’s show you got to watch a TEACHER poke and prod at this Grandpa’s morals and then turn around and take everything. She couldn’t even look at him afterwards. And what if some of her students “watch their Teacher on tv”? Is this what we want to be teaching our kids? I certainly don’t want my kids thinking that is the way to “succeed”.
For some reason this stuck with me, it’s been nagging me all morning. Maybe I am just too empathetic to other’s feelings? I don’t know. But what would you do?
jamie says
that idea doesnt sound like a show i would want to watch. at least when you passed the showcase to the other person they still had a great prize and a chance to win it all. this is becoming a nation who rewards greed and stepping on others for fun. id like to see it as just funny TV..but like you…i think too much.
Karen R says
The guy was a gentleman. The woman had me fooled and certainly him. All I can say is, “Shame on you”.
Tasha harrelson says
ummm not really liking this….not liking this one bit, plenty of better things to watch on tv most defiantly
Heather Kenville says
No, your right. She is in the wrong- esp. if shes a teacher knowing shes gonna be on tv and the odds of her students watching this is good. I would want to share with the other person not take it all.
JESSICA SILLER says
don’t think religion should be involved but freedom of speech is always spoken
Fay P says
Wow, greed sure has taken over the world. One day people may realize that it’s not money that makes you happy. 🙂
April Skidgel says
I think it shows the greed of people today, and those with no thought of others. I wouldn’t watch this show now that I’ve watched that clip of it
carla says
I dont like it. I dont like shows like this. They have taken over tv. what happen to family shows?
Sarah says
Seriously, this looks LESS than interesting. I think our country is so wrapped up in entitlement that I wouldn’t be surprised it it was a hit though.
Cassie Webster says
Ugh. What a mean, greedy driven show! I couldn’t stand to watch it more then once. It’s like putting 5 people in a room and only 4 water bottles…they have to battle each other to stay alive. yuck. Morals have gone down the drain in tv land. 🙁
Janee' Lowman says
Yikes…don’t like. Another example of our selfish, want it now, all for me attitudes!
kathy jackson says
Yea, I watched the teacher take it all from santa, kinda made me cringe, but that was the game right?
Danielle R says
This is exactly why I do not watch reality tv. They push people over the edge of their comfort zone and then someone gets hurt.
Samantha Barowsky says
There are better things that could be done with the money used for prizes on game shows…
Diana Camden says
This game sounds terrible. I would be concerned if she was a teacher, too. But it doesn’t matter what you do, you should always be a good example to others…especially our children. What we do today shapes the world tomorrow.
Anyway, I can’t fathom even trying to play this game…I don’t even like playing UNO with family. Lol
Steph says
I think it’s just a version of the Prisoners’ Dilemma (game theory). http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Prisoner's_dilemma
Denise C says
This show blew my mind! I do get where she was coming from when she made the comment to him about him wanting to “take” from each of the contestants throughout the game which made her nervous about trusting him… however, when he said “trust me” I 100% believed him and completely thought she would do it and they both would walk away with something. We were all floored she took it all. I was moreso disappointed with the fact that I felt for her the entire game because everyone kept taking her stuff, and then in the end, she went and took it all. Nothing learned.
Brandy Werner says
Horrible show that gives people the notion that screwing another person over is a good thing. Really? If I wanted to watch trash I’d turn on daytime t.v., MTV or Honey Boo Boo. Sad idea for a show!
Jennifer Smith Zemrose says
I saw the commericals for the show, was not interested in it all.
Tiffany Blair says
I wouldn’t play the game but I can’t talk about the contestants because they knew the rules of the game.
Angie says
Horrible show and terrible view of man’s greed.
Brandi Hudson says
I don’t think I would like it at all!! There’s no way I could “Take It All” from anybody at all. But of course there are people who would love to be that greed and take whatever it is they can from others.
Bridget Heiple Reich says
I don’t think that would be a fun show to watch at all. That’s terrible to make someone feel that way or have to make that decision. I don’t have much time to watch TV anyway, but I will not be watching this!
Courtney Welch says
How could HOWIE watch that happen??? Greed greea greed!!!
Christine Domyanic says
I think that the show is ridiculous I am surprised at what he have fallen to in this country. I certainly don’t want my girls watching this because what would that be teaching them?
stephen radford says
yes I would love the game show.
dawn says
after reading your blog decision not to watch works for me its all about me world nowadays and its sickening to see our children learn this at an early age….Its better to give than receive…
Nicole says
This is a show that would annoy me because of people’s greed.
Danielle Cairo says
I really don’t think I would be able to watch this. Watching people act greedy is not something I enjoy.
Michelle Mills says
this show is not one I would like…creates anxious feelings…not fun ones.
Betty Baez says
Wow! It really shows people’s true colors I really think that teacher taught her students a bad lesson, I would kept mine. I watched the episode tonight and they both chose take it all i was pretty shocked some people are just too greedy
Katie Ringbauer says
Don’t like it at all!
abbi says
I think it’s pretty crappy of her to take it all. I would probably always say keep mine. I think it’s kinda dumb. During the holidays isn’t it about giving? Wouldn’t it be nice if we all thought about the other person before ourselves. I mean after all we would be getting a prize to but so would they if we just kept mine.
Fallon Sarazin says
I had no desire to watch it. I don’t have enough time for the shows I already watch! lol
Lydia says
Oh wow, I did not know what this show was about after just catching a bit of a commercial for it. What a terrible idea. Everyone should just say “keep mine,” but then I guess that wouldn’t be so exciting for ratings.
Katri H says
Doesn’t sound that great of a show, but it will probably attract the same type of people that watch survivor, kardashians and real housewives of wherever….People really need to find something better to do with their lives then watching other people live theirs!
Jessica Yassu says
Yeah, that’s totally wrong. People shouldn’t be rewarded for greed. Sadly, shows like this only prove how selfish our world is becoming. I wouldn’t watch it.
Fraydes says
Watched it! It had some funny parts but was a little boring and in the end everyone went home with nothing!!!
Kristy says
I wouldn’t have done what she did that’s for sure…
Danielle says
Wow. Gameshows like this are not my thing. At all.
Melissa R. says
I only saw the last part of it and I was struck with how she was begging him not to screw her over and then she did it to him. I felt really bad for him because he was crying. I don’t think I would have taken it all. But I’m not in that situation so I couldn’t say how I would feel at that time.
Kristine says
I’m really not a fan.
Olivia F. says
I would totally “Keep Mine” it just seems like the best scenario! It’s pretty crazy though…
anne hill says
i dont like it. i guess tv producers want to “push the envelope” by pitting people against each other in questionable moral situations…why can’t there just be jeopardy! & wheel of fortune!?
Sara Crowley says
People are greedy and its a shame that there is a show to show it. I would keep mine and let the other keep theirs…you’re still winning!
Andrea says
I love Howie Mandel, but I will not be watching!
Brenda Webb says
i really am not interested in another game show
Wendy S. says
Not something I’d watch, it’d get to me too much, but it may succeed because it’s hard not to look at a train wreck.
Angela says
I could never take something from someone like that, even in a game show. I also would not want to watch it, either. Horrible!
danielle says
i love winning things and hope to keep getting good think from this site.
Diana Camden says
Hmm, the gentleman looks like st. nick. 😛 Seriously, this is just a disturbing show. I would like to see more family shows on prime time myself.
Diana
Sarah C says
I have been wondering what this was all about! Thanks for the info. Agreed, teachers aren’t probably the best contestants.
Thomas Murphy says
I have not seen the show but I will be checking it out next week, it sounds interesting
Stacy Ferrell says
I would be so hard for me to take it. I am empathetic to others as well, even strangers, and value that I can be trusted.
Brandi Price says
No way I could do what she did! 🙁
ROBIN DICK says
It’s a game and you know what you are getting into.
Alison says
I would not do that to the gentleman – it is hard to watch…
Andrea Jackson says
Even though its a game I just couldnt do it !!
Abby B. says
I couldn’t do what she did. I get that it’s a game and you know what you signed up for, but I still have to be able to face myself everyday. And I couldn’t do it after railroading a grandpa. I’m not a fan of the show.
Amanda Sakovitz says
I hate shows like these. I couldn’t do that to another person.
lisa peterson says
I wouldn’t watch this. We don’t need any more shows like this. I mean, the kind where they have to manipulate or cheat someone else. What the heck is the world coming to. Great post, just don’t think a show like this will do anyone any good.
Elizabeth Banta says
I used to be a fan of Howie… …. :/ I liked his earlier work better for sure.
Juliane K says
Yeah, Its kinda of a weird show! I agree that its not really right, but thats what people want in entertainment now days i guess! Sad 🙁
Cathy Campbell says
NOT A FAN!!
Mary Fagans says
I agree with you 100%. I don’t think that’s a good way to teach children to act, or anyone for that matter.
Mikki Cross says
I haven’t seen the show and probably would not audition for it either. However it is only a game and you should be prepared for failure. The grandpa couldn’t “read” his opponent and he got skunked. If I were on the show [not likely] I guess I’d share and take my chances getting ribbed by my friends if I got skunked.
Sharon says
I don’t think I would enjoy it very much.
Shasta says
Eh, I’m not really into these kinda shows. I’d much rather watch Once Upon a Time, Revenge, or Sons of Anarchy. lol Oh Dexter and Homeland are good too! haha
latanya says
I would not watch the show, but stuff like this happens all the time. It’s pretty sad.
ashley coffey says
I bet there was more to the story…people will do anything for ratings and money!
Caitlin chapman says
Omg! I watched just the end of this last night and was appalled! I won’t be watching it ever again.
Lily Kwan says
I’m not sure I would watch this show.
illy junus says
yes, i watch this show after the Voice…i’m in the process of trying to like it
Amanda says
Loved the one tonight! Both guys kept it! 🙂
Jamie S. says
there is more to this story I wish I knew what it was thanks for the info
Ashley says
I wouldn’t watch this show, but I can see why some would like it.
Carol Kiser says
Sad Show–don’t like to see such greediness so I choose not to watch.
Laura says
Wow….sounds outrageous!
Victoria says
Not a fan of tv, but definitely would not watch this show.
Denise says
This show won’t last.
Julie says
We have watched it this week and I cannot believe how many people are greedy!! I would hope we could talk itout and share it!!
heather says
Juat watched it tonight. Not bad!!!
Kristi Rosz says
Not my bag of tea…
