For such an inexpensive and innocent seeming mineral- Magnesium Sulfate, aka Epsom Salt has so many amazing year round uses. I keep a bag under the sink at all times. Magnesium and sulfate are both necessary for many functions your body needs to carry out, and are easily absorbed by your body.
They both aid in forming brain tissue, joint proteins, stimulating the pancreas to increase digestive enzymes, Improve oxygen, and aid the body in absorbing other important nutrients, relieve stress, improve nerve function. And that’s just the short list of some of the benefits. It can be used externally, taken internally, used as a cleaner, plant food, foot deodorizer, and countless other things.

8 Uses For Epsom Salt
Bath Soak– Add 2 cups of Epsom salt to a very warm bath and soak as long as you can. This is a great way to detox your body of environmental toxins. Epsom salt soaks are also fantastic for sore, achy muscles and deep bruising. Repeat 2-3 times per week, preferably in the evenings to aid in a great nights sleep.
Facial Scrub – Mix ½ tsp. into your favorite facial cleaner, massage in gently, and rinse well with cold water for an invigorating and cleansing scrub.
Foot Soak – For relaxation and reducing foot odor. Add ½ cup to warm water in a large tub and soak for 15-20 minutes. Rinse and pat feet thoroughly dry.
For oily hair – Mix ½ cup Epsom salt, and half a cup your regular shampoo for oily hair. Massage onto dry hair, rinse thoroughly, and then finish off with an apple cider vinegar rinse.
Fertilize Plants – Excellent for Roses, Tomatoes, Bell Peppers, and Herbs. For roses add 1 Tbsp Epsom salt per gallon of water and pour at the base. For other plants I put 1 Tbsp. right at the base and water in.
Tile Grout scrub – Mix equal parts liquid dish washing detergent ( I am partial to blue classic Dawn) and Epsom salts. Scrub tile grout briskly and then wipe away with a wet cloth.
Saline Laxative – I have never tried this, but I have heard and the package claims that it is safe to use as a saline laxative. 2-4 tsps. Dissolved in an 8 oz. glass of water. A lot of people report using it as a Colon cleanse detox. Always check with your Dr. especially if you have digestive issues already.
For your dog – Epsom salts can even be used safely on your 4 legged friend. Soaks or compresses can be used to alleviate dry, itchy skin conditions. Combine ½ cup Epsom salts to 1 gallon very warm water to make a foot soak for toe or pad of the food issues. You will probably need someone to assist you with holding your pooch as they should soak for at least 5 minutes.
