It has been a couple of days since my last update, lots of little things and progress!
The last few days have had their ups and downs. Sunday was a rough day as it turned out that one of the blood cultures that had been drawn earlier in the week had one that all of a sudden showed up as positive for infection. He has been on antibiotics for the past week so I wasn’t too concerned about him still having an infection but because of that, they had to do all new blood cultures, which meant a lot more poking. He also was anemic so they had to give him blood, which meant anther IV in his head. 🙁 Boo. They also had to do a lumbar puncture and a catheter to check for any possible infections. We are still waiting for the final result on the tests and cultures, but so far all negative.
That was the bad stuff. BUT there have been a TON of great things 🙂
First of all… he hit TWO pounds!! This morning he weighed in at 2.1lbs. He has also grown 1cm since birth. Definitely progress. They are upping his feeds 1cc every 12 hours until he gets to 18ccs every 3 hours. Right now he is at 12! He is now having regular bowel movements so that is good too. Once he is up to 18ccs they will be able to take the picc line out. Which will be good because that thing just doesn’t look comfortable.
He was taken OFF the jet pack oxygen and put on conventional oxygen! He has done pretty well on it too, lots more sleeping which is great! He is actually down low enough on the conventional oxygen that they could take him off that, they are moving slowly on that though (understandably!!). AND he has been entirely moved off morphine as of today (they had him on that while on the jetpack oxygen).
And the best of all… I was able to hold him for the first time today!
He did VERY well with it, his oxygen stayed up, he was calm and it was just… perfect <3 I held him for a good hour and could have sat there all day long if I didn’t need to go get the kids from school! I am definitely looking forward to more kangaroo care with my little man.
Thank you again for your continued prayers and positive thoughts!
