It is so easy to forget that not every one lives in the United States of America. Couponing has become a way of life all over the world, and Canada is certainly no exception.
If you live in Canada and read my blog (thank you), maybe you do so for the other content. I sure hope you keep coming back as I strive to include information pertinent to anywhere. However, it never hurts to provide a little information specific to my Northern friends. Many deals are accessible to both Canada and the US, at least a good 75% of them, but there are some differences that I didn’t realize!
From the little I know about couponing in Canada, I guess there is no stacking or double coupons and our “Catalina” coupons are not quite as common either. With all the extreme couponing happening, even here in the US many retailers have stopped the double stuff but many are lucky to still have a store or two that do.
There are a few tips that I have gotten from searching the net on how you can save in Canada:
a) You definitely still get coupons in the newspaper and can collect from friends and neighbors so you don’t need to spend lot on them.
b) As with anywhere, shop the SALES. Take your local ad and make sure when you have a coupon/sale you take advantage of that double-up opportunity.
c) Mail in Rebates – these are almost always valid in Canada too!
d) Price MATCH! Collect your flyers and you can take them with you to the store. This IS something that is permissible in Canada and will save you on multiple trips to different stores.
e) Loyalty cards, while not all grocery stores in Canada have them I have heard that some do! This offers additional savings on specific items (again that will be in the flyers).
One thing is for sure, if you look for deals and coupons online you can get some great deals too! If you want a one-stop solution, you can get coupons exclusively for Canada here. Plus, you can even find free promo codes for Amazon.ca. The entire site is straight forward and easy to travel through.
