I ran into Walmart tonight to see if I could snag one of those $4 Lunch Crock Pots — unfortunately none of my local Walmarts have them in stock. 🙁 I did snag a couple great deals though with coupons that are STILL available!
What I bought:
Motts Applesauce Snack & Go, $2.50
Glade Expressions Fragrance Mist Starter Kit Cotton & Italian mandarin, shelf said $1.98 — rang up at just $1
Glade Expressions Fragrance Mist Starter Kit, Fuji Apple & Cardamon Spice, shelf said $2.50 – rang up at $2.98 (?!?!)
Glade Expressions Oil diffuser starter kit, Pineapple + Mangosteen, rollback at $5.98
2 Pepsi Next, $1 each (although shelf said $1.48)
Total at register: $14.46
Coupons used:
$1/1 Motts Applesauce Snack & Go
2 of the $3/1 Glade Expressions Fragrance Mist Starter Kit
$5/1 Glade Expressions Oil Diffuser Starter Kit
FREE Pepsi Next when you Buy One
Total after coupons: $2.16!
Not bad for a quick trip. I was however reminded of why it is important to bring your coupon policy with you when it comes to Walmart! I hate to feel like I need to “stereotype” my cashier but I made a mistake tonight in picking a line because it was the shorter line. I glanced at the cashier and it could have gone either way, but you know when you just have “that feeling”. Well I should have followed my gut.
She didn’t understand why I could use a coupon for $3 off a product that was ringing up at $1. Or even the $5 coupon for an item that was only $5.98. I got to hear about how 4 employees were just fired for taking “coupons like these”. She wouldn’t even try to scan them!! We had to get a manager over (which took about 7 minutes) and he promptly told her to scan them and as long as they scanned they were fine.
Lesson learned hopefully! I know I certainly did.
So after all that, tips to follow:
a) Follow your gut, if you don’t think a cashier is going to be “coupon friendly” then just skip the line, even if it is the “shorter one”.
b) Always bring your coupon policy with you!

I always have “cashier” problems at walmart. I try to avoid that place at all costs if I have any coupons or deals I want. I have yet to run into a cashier who understood their own coupon policy. I got overage once and the cashier refused to give me money (even though I showed her the policy) because, in her words: “I don’t want my till to be short.” I’m like “what?” So, it took a 2 managers and 20 minutes on the dispute over $5.12 overage. Another time, a cashier said she she couldn’t accept the coupon because it would make the item ‘free”, and I said, “That’s the point.” One even told me that they don’t ad match! And all us couponers KNOW they do. LOL .. That was another manager call. I am NOT saying all Walmart employees are ‘bad’ … I am just saying, in MY experience, I have come to the conclusion that, unless you are ready to dispute, don’t use coupons there. 😉

I had a similar problem…THEY DON’T GIVE OVERAGE…this cashier took 30 minutes reading every word on the coupon …4 coupons…4 items…and it wasn’t even to get the items for free…what was a short line…quickly became a long line….and it was supposed to be quick checkout…lol….even another cashier asked her if she wanted to go for lunch…a presume she sensed there was a problem….Walmart needs to get their act together and train their staff….I also avoid if I can…just happen to be in the area.
