Thank you to everyone that heard about what was happening this past couple days and sent their thoughts and prayers, they have been very much appreciated.
So a little update, I announced I was pregnant just a couple months ago, we found out we were having a little boy back when I first announced here on the blog. Things were moving along well.
I have mentioned before that I usually have my kids at home with a midwife, that was the plan with this little trooper too. But, that plan didn’t quite play out. My due date was Jan 15, 2015.
This past Friday I started having abnormal swelling in my hands, face and legs and went into the OB triage at the hospital to get checked out as it was obviously concerning to both me and my midwife. When I went into OB triage my blood pressure was over 145 so they started checking into things as obviously they wanted to make sure that I didn’t have preeclampsia. I was sent home with the 24 hour urine test to do and come back.
Well on Saturday, I unfortunately had such a bad headache I ended up back at OB triage and my BP was HIGH. We’re talking over 180 a few times. Definitely not an ideal situation and I ended up being admitted to the hospital on Saturday night.
Ultrasounds revealed that there were issues with the baby not getting everything that he needed from the umbilical cord. He was also having heart rate dips which were concerning.
Luckily, the hospital that I am at is a teaching hospital and probably one of the best that I could be at under such circumstances. I was still hoping for more time to “bake” my little guy but after 3 days of monitoring (including getting steroids to him and BP meds to me), it was determined that it was going to be best for the baby and me to deliver.
We ended up delivering yesterday, Oct 15 by C-section. I opted to do that as I figured that would cause the least amount of stress on him and me at that point and wouldn’t result in an emergency c-section where I had to be put under general anesthesia. All went well in the c-Section and baby Oliver was delivered at 11:44am yesterday morning.
He weighed in at 1 pound 10 ounces, at 13 inches long and for his gestational age and size, he is doing very well. I am recovering well, blood pressure seems to be going down and I am hoping to be up and at ’em in the next day or two. I was able to finally get in there and touch my precious little guy today. He is so little but a very strong boy and I am confident that he is going to thrive from here. They have him intubated but he is already starting to breathe for the most part without it and I expect him to be off that within a few days.
Your continued thoughts, love and prayers are greatly appreciated! Things will be continuing “as usual” with deals with friends helping out. 🙂 I expect this holiday season to be just as awesome as every other year!

What a blessing to hear how calm you sound about such a major disruption to “the plan.” I hope it’s a testament to a strong faith, knowing the truth of Jeremiah 29:11 and Proverbs 19:21. God bless you and Oliver!

My boys were born at 29 weeks. One was 2lbs the other 3lbs 6oz. The 2 pounder baby was in the NICU for 1 1/2 months and my 3 pounder was in for 2 1/2. My thoughts are with your family! I know first hand how tiring and emotional it is having a baby in the NICU. Both my boys are now healthy and strong. My first born is now 7 and my youngest is 17 months. I know we have not met personally but please feel free to email me if you need to talk to someone who knows the ropes of having a preemie in the NICU.
