Remember that little trip to Los Angeles back in August?? Well one of the other things that I was treated to was an early screening of the true story Queen of Katwe.
This is easily, hands down, the most inspirational story and movie of this year. It is about Phiona Mutesi, a beautiful young girl living is Katwe, in what can only be described as a 3rd world home and town.
Her persistence, her drive, her urge to learn despite all, is absolutely phenomenal.
Our complaints about power outages, or no dishwasher, or a broken washer, all seem trivial compared to the environment that she was raised in. In the midst of this desolate situation, she found and outlet. And a coach. Every young student these days should see this movie. Every adult. Everyone. There is far too much complaining about the trivial compared to what this young woman persisted through to make her life a success.
She learned chess. And did it so well it is almost unbelievable!
This movie is the story of how she did it, her coach, her family. The trials. It is both amazing and heart warming. Yes, some tears were shed too.
It is out in limited release right now and everywhere this Friday, Sept 30! GO SEE IT!.
