If you live in an area where the kids get out of school after June 1st, I am sure you are thinking about what to do to keep them busy each week. Here in New Mexico, we are already dealing with that issue; my two have been out since last week. For my own sanity, I am determined to get this summertime thing down to a manageable routine, and maybe I can impart the best of it to all of you.
Projects, planned events and things to look forward to come to mind. Keeping the kids in the loop of it all will be important as well. You can find a lot of ideas if you look online because this is a common dilemma for sure. After doing a bit of that myself, I still felt like I needed to be more specific.
How about a weekly plan! Teachers need one. Maybe that is the missing link. Instead of just grabbing things out of desperation from a compiled list, why not pick the first three that catch the eye and plan them out for the week. Let the kids know what and when, then they will have something to look forward to.
Here is the first week’s agenda.
Go roller or ice skating – This one is good for everyone! Most local rinks have special times for special ages. Make sure to take sweaters if you are headed to an indoor ice rink, even if it is hot outside. And, don’t forget to join in so you get your workout too.
Visit a farmer’s market and buy produce for the week – I like this one. Look around for a good one in your area. Plan out the weeks menu to contain a lot of veggies and fruit so you have a big list.
Have an A to Z scavenger hunt, find something that starts with every letter – This just might keep the kids busy for more than a day. Anyone have a stuffed zebra or some quinoa around in the pantry?
I am hoping if I do this right, my two will look forward to the week’s plan. Maybe by the end of summer break I will be half as good as their teachers are at planning our time. Be sure to watch for each week’s post, and feel free to report back if you have neat results of any inspirations for future weeks.
What’s on your agenda with the kids this summer?
