I can’t believe we are already to the final post from my whirlwind press trip back in December! This whole trip was absolutely incredible and if you haven’t, be sure to browse through the posts as there is everything from Star Wars to The Bachelor and more! And of course, Zootopia!
During the trip we visited the Disney animation studios, as I mentioned before. The amount of research and detail that goes into making an animated Disney movie is outstanding. The final stop here is with the Art Director, Cory Loftis. He is the one who gets the fun job of determining how these animals would walk if they all stood on just two legs. How would they wear their clothes? Doing that, while keeping them true to the bone structure of the actual animals. Quite a task!
I mentioned before that they had to figure out how to scale everything, how do you have giraffes (on two legs) in the same world as mice, etc.. So many little details and they did an outstanding job!

Each character, had hours and hours of research put into it. Like the Police Officer, Chief Bogo. Cory Lofis explained to us that they had to research how “bigger” cops would wear their uniforms, surveying those cops that lifted weights, thus the t-shirt under the uniform shirt. Imagine getting the detail like that for over 1000 animals!! Amazing right?!
Cory Loftis took us step by step through drawing Hopps… you can see my drawing below. Despite having untrained people sitting in front of him, I think he taught us pretty well!
He was a pretty good teacher! Don’t forget, Zootopia is hitting theaters March 4. Just one month away! This is definitely one that you’ll want to take the kids to see!
