I have so much momnesia going on right now that I actually MISSED the press showing of this movie on Monday night here in Albuquerque and took my kids on Tuesday evening thinking that we would be seeing it. Seeing as it happened the night before, you can imagine the sadness that ensued… The kids were not happy with me that is for sure!
This morning (opening day!), I decided to brave it and take both kids AND Oliver (who thankfully is a very easy-going baby). We went to the very first showing at our local theater this morning and LOVED IT.
Be sure to bring your tissues though because this one does invoke the feels.
Without giving away the movie or writing a novel about how great I thought this movie was, here is the bottomline… as every kid grows up, they go through some stage where they are not sure what to think about changes in their life.
Whether it is during puberty, because of a big change in their life, a move, a family loss, a pet dying, whatever it is, there is something that happens and they are unsure of what to do about these new feelings. Whereas when you are really young, often joy is the most prominent. This movie has BEAUTIFULLY laid out a young girl, Riley, coming to grips with a huge move.
Showing how the emotions have to work together and things aren’t so cut and dry anymore, there may be moments of joy, mixed with sadness. Fear, mixed with anger.
I was extremely impressed with how the story tellers put this together and made it clear to even my 7 and 8 year old.
Yes, bring the tissues! I definitely recommend this one for all parents, all tweens, all kiddos. Oh, and seeing as there was so much outstanding color, Oliver loved it too! 😉
